Mugabe said he was in tip-top shape in an interview with state radio, and made no reference to media reports that he is receiving treatment for prostate cancer in Singapore.

“I have died many times. That’s where I have beaten Christ. Christ died once and resurrected once,” the devout Catholic Mugabe told the radio broadcaster. “I am as fit as a fiddle.”

Mugabe charmed world leaders with his wit and intellect in the early years of his rule, when a relatively rich Zimbabwe was praised for its education and social systems.

But he has since become a pariah in the West, blamed for running the economy into the ground and for massive human rights abuses to keep his grip on power.

Mugabe, one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders, said his party ZANU-PF would choose his successor at the right time, but he had no intention of stepping down for now.

“Our members of the party will certainly select someone once I say I am now retiring, but not yet,” he said in a separate interview with state TV.

“At this age I can still go some distance, can’t I,” Mugabe said, laughing, clapping his hands and rocking in his chair.

He said he held sufficient powers to announce a 2012 election date. “And I will. If there are those who don’t want an election, they are free not to go” to polls, Mugabe said.

He also said Monday that he reserves the right to disregard efforts by South African President Jacob Zuma to mediate disputes in the nation’s troubled coalition government.

Zuma is tasked by the Southern Africa Development Community to help steer Zimbabwe toward free and fair elections to end the three-year power sharing deal with Tsvangirai that the regional bloc brokered after violent elections in 2008.

This is the first time I am using the Samsung NX200 for a “professional” photoshoot. You see, whenever I intend to do a photoshoot where I intend to do some serious post-processing, I would always use my Nikon DSLR gear. For casual photos where I do not intend to edit, I conveniently use all other options. In fact, most of my product review photos in this blog are shot with either the mirrorless cameras, compact cameras or phone cameras, in JPG, and running through Picasa for minor brightness and contrast adjustments.

In order to post-process images taken on the Samsung NX200, I had to shoot in Samsung Raw (SRW) format.

Many people thought that it is unnecessary to shoot in RAW format because a photographer should nail the exposure correctly during the shot. But shooting RAW is more than post-adjusting the exposure. When you shoot in RAW, you are able to edit the colour tone, the sharpness, the noise reduction, the contrast, the brightness, without compromising the quality. It’s akin to shooting in negatives instead of instant photo.

But when you shoot in JPG, the image is already processed by the camera, and all the colour tone, sharpness, noise reduction, has already been fixed. In fact, when I use the same image and tried to process both in RAW and JPG using the same Lightroom presets, the result turns out entirely different.

But that doesn’t mean you have to always shoot in RAW, because most of the times, you really do not need the extra capability, especially when shooting in RAW will increase your file size tremendously, requires special software and more time to process RAW to JPG, and more importantly, slows down the time to save the images on your camera. This is very apparent on the Samsung NX200. After taking a RAW shot, I am unable to review the image until the buffer has completely processed the images, which takes about 5 seconds. I would have no such buffer issues on a prosumer DSLR like Nikon D300.
Many times, it’s a conscious decision on picking the equipment to use for your shoot assignments. Using a DSLR like Nikon D300 will guarantee me a shooting experience without lag, but I would have to pack a bag full of heavy lenses.

A mirrorless system like Samsung NX200 is easily fitted in a normal backpack, but I get the same image quality – the NX200 is a 20 megapixel APS-C sensor, which is technically better than my Nikon D300. The only compromise I had: slower shot-to-shot, image review, AF (lens dependent).

But sometimes, it’s not the speed of the equipment that gets the shot. It’s the anticipation.

I recommended that he do the work, find the correlation between like minded folks, and they will take interest. We agreed that the groups were related and that education would be key. Three tribes, one conversation.

Since it is important to get a dose of inspiration on a regular basis, one of the things you can do is open your eyes; be a little more open minded in relationship to those having interests other than yours, but common interests elsewhere. Have you ever categorized your tribes? How many do you have? Are there more than a few? My guess is that you might be surprised as to how the relationships between tribes work–surprised as to who crosses over and why.

My personality requires me to have the influence from many tribes, many cultures, and I am pretty darned sure that others like me tend to be like me in other ways; information junkies, lifelong learners, wander luster?s, always seeking to get “it” or “get” something out of “it”. This is how we learn. We are a tribe in our own bad selves. We are not at all concerned with political ramifications of embarking on a knowledge quest to understand culture.

We seek knowledge for the sake of knowledge and that keeps us interested, inspired. We get inspired by those having something that we feel we might want or need to learn about. If we feel so compelled we will embark on the things that the tribe has to offer in order to glean from it what the others have, the charter, and the purpose, the feeling of what?s inside. Once the waters warm and we have become comfortable navigating that which is at the core of the group, we absorb all of the benefits. It takes as long as it takes, ongoing if you like it a lot.
